Living Out Our Calling

The "Living Out Our Calling" one-pager series is an invitation to faithfulness.

As The United Methodist Church, our denominational commitment to racial justice names a bold and holy calling:

to eradicate racism in all its forms and to embody a church where every person is treated with dignity, equity, and justice.

This calling is not abstract or aspirational. It requires concrete transformation—of hearts, relationships, systems, and structures. It asks us to tell the truth about the realities of white supremacy, racial inequity, white privilege, colonialism, and tribalism confronting how these forces continue to shape the life of the Church and the world.

Living Out Our Calling assumes that transformation is both personal and structural. It requires courageous truth-telling, deep listening, and a willingness to be changed. It also trusts that the Holy Spirit is already at work—convicting, guiding, and empowering the Church to become more fully who God has called us to be.

Living out our calling means moving beyond statements of intent toward sustained action, spiritual accountability, and communal change. This series invites you not simply to learn, but to practice and embody racial justice as a lived commitment. Together, we step into the work of dismantling racism, not as an act of charity, but as an expression of faithfulness to the gospel and to one another.
